About the Book

For the first time ever, Out of Sight! explores the rich history of sport and leisure as experienced by Ireland’s blind and vision impaired athletes, their families, friends, and coaches. Author Joe Geraghty is Ireland’s foremost expert on sport for blind and vision impaired people, a trail blazer on and off the athletics track. Join Joe and dance along with Paralympics gold star Jason Smyth, swim along with teenage sensation. Róisín Ní Ríain; spin along in tandem with Katie-George Dunlevy, cycling’s most successful Paralympian: swing along with ex-NYPD captain Paul McCormack who lost his sight after 9/11 before turning to blind golf. Jump into the world of multi-sport with seventimes Paralympian Catherine Walsh.

Meet these sportspeople and many more who live with sight loss but kicked on in sports including blind football, adapted rugby, tennis, or picked up the pieces with braille chess. In a “can’t see, can do” world, anything goes.
